Image to text converter

Pick the image whose text you need. After you sign in, attach it in your workspace chat; a chat model with vision reads every line and writes it out as text you can copy, translate or turn into a table.

Read all the text in the image I attached, whiteboard-sprint-review.jpg, and write it out exactly as it appears, keeping the line breaks, lists and tables. Mark any word you cannot read with [?]. Do not translate or summarize it unless I ask.

Here is the text from the whiteboard: Sprint review, week 43 1. Checkout redesign: shipped 2. Search filters: in QA, Friday 3. Onboarding emails: blocked [?] copy Next: pricing page test

  • One word on line 3 is unclear, so I marked it with [?].
  • Ask for a table and I will put the items and their status in two columns.

What is an image to text converter?

An image to text converter reads the words in a picture and gives them back as text you can select, copy and edit. It is what people use to get the text out of a screenshot, a photo of a whiteboard, a scanned page, a receipt or a slide, instead of typing it again by hand.

Classic OCR matches letter shapes and often breaks on photos taken at an angle, mixed layouts or handwriting. A chat model with vision reads the image the way a person would, so it keeps the order of columns, the items of a list and the rows of a table, and it can tell you which words it could not read.

In Endless, you attach the image in your workspace chat and the model writes the text out there. In the same chat you can ask for it as a table, translated into another language, summarized, or cleaned into a document you save in your workspace.

How it works

  1. 01

    Pick the image

Drop or choose the image in the box above. A screenshot, a photo of a page, a scan, a slide or a receipt all work.

  2. 02

Sign in and attach it again

Create a free Endless account or sign in. Your workspace chat opens with the prompt already written. The file stays on this page, so attach the image again in the chat and send.

  3. 03

    Copy, translate or reformat

The agent writes out the text in the chat. Copy it, or ask for a table, a translation, a summary or a clean version without line breaks.

What people use it for

  1. 01

    Screenshots

Get the text out of a screenshot of a chat, an error message, a post or a web page that does not let you select it.

  2. 02

    Notes and whiteboards

Turn a photo of handwritten notes or a whiteboard after a meeting into text you can share. Clear handwriting reads well; messy handwriting may need a check.

  3. 03

    Scanned pages and documents

Extract the text from a scanned letter, a book page or a printed form so you can edit or quote it.

  4. 04

    Receipts and tables

Ask for the items and amounts from a receipt or a printed table as rows you can paste into a spreadsheet.

  5. 05

    Text in another language

Read a menu, a sign or a label in a language you do not speak, then ask for the translation in the same chat.

  6. 06

    Slides and infographics

Pull the titles, bullets and figures out of a slide or an infographic to reuse them in your own notes or a post.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is image to text free?

You can start free. A free Endless account comes with the Free plan, which gives your workspace 100 credits when you create it and 50 credits every week. Reading an image is a chat turn, which spends a small amount of credits.

  • Do I need an account?

Yes. This page only writes the request. The image is read and the text is written out in your workspace chat after you create a free account or sign in.

  • Can it read handwriting?

Yes, when the handwriting is clear. Neat notes come out well; rushed or faint handwriting may have mistakes, and the agent marks words it cannot read with [?]. Check names and numbers before you use them.

  • Which languages does it read?

Most languages written in Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese or Korean script. The text comes out in the language of the image unless you ask for a translation.

  • Does it keep tables and layout?

It keeps line breaks, lists and the order of columns. Ask for a table and it writes the rows in Markdown, ready to paste into a document or a spreadsheet.

  • Can I extract text from a PDF or several images?

Yes. Attach a PDF or several images in the same message and ask for the text of each one. For long documents, ask for one page at a time so you can check each part.

  • How is this different from image to prompt?

Image to text copies the words that appear in the picture. Image to prompt describes the picture itself, its subject, light and style, as a prompt you can use to generate a similar image.

  • Are my images private?

Images you attach and the text you extract are saved in your workspace, private by default, and you decide who to share them with. Endless does not post or publish your files anywhere.
