Chat history
Every conversation is kept — here's how to get back to the one you want.
Nothing is thrown away when you close a chat. There are two places to find one again: the Recents list in the sidebar for what you were just doing, and Chat history for everything else.
Recents, in the sidebar
The Recents section holds your ten most recent conversations, with "View all chats" at the end. Before you've started one it says so: "Your recent chats appear here. Start one from New chat."
Recents isn't only chats you started — a conversation someone shared that you've replied in shows up too, because you took part in it. Runs from a scheduled task are kept out, so a daily digest doesn't push your own work off the list.
Chat history
"View all chats" — or Chat history from the dropdown at the top of any conversation — opens the full list: "Chat history", "Your conversations and ones shared with you."
Search
"Search chats…" searches everything, not just what's on screen. The current list stays visible while results load.
Filter
Three tabs: "All", "Created by you" and "Shared".
Grouped by when
Once there's enough to group, the list breaks into Today, Yesterday, This week and Earlier, newest first.
What each row tells you
The title, how long ago it was, how many messages it holds, and — for someone else's — "Shared by" them, with their avatar.
The list keeps loading as you scroll, so there are no pages to click through.
What "Shared" means here
The "Shared" tab is every conversation in the workspace that isn't private — including ones you shared. It isn't a list of things other people sent you. If you want only your own, that's "Created by you".
A chat starts private and stays that way until its owner shares it. The share control is in the chat's own header and in its ⋯ menu, and offers the same choice as a file does: "Private" or "Shared with workspace" — see Assets and visibility.
Renaming and deleting
Open the row's menu
"More options" on a row in Chat history, in Recents, or from the chat's own header.
Rename it
Endless names a conversation from your first message, so a chat that wandered somewhere else often ends up misnamed. "Rename" fixes it — the placeholder suggests the shape: "e.g. Q4 planning notes".
Or delete it
"Delete chat" asks first — "Delete this chat?", "…will be deleted. This can't be undone." Unlike a file, a deleted conversation doesn't wait in the trash.
These are the owner's controls. A conversation shared with you opens and reads normally, but has no menu — you can't rename, re-share or delete someone else's chat, the same way you can't edit someone else's file.
When the list looks empty
- "No chats yet" — "Start a conversation and it'll show up here for next time."
- "No shared chats" — "Chats shared with your workspace will show up here."
- "No chats from you yet" — "Chats you create will show up here.", with a "Show all chats" back out of the filter.
The command palette jumps to places, tools, projects and settings — it doesn't search conversations. To find an old chat, use the search on Chat history.
