# Cursor and VS Code

> Add Endless to Cursor or VS Code with an mcp.json file: paste the address, sign in once, and use your workspace beside your code.

Source: https://endless.app/docs/connect/editors

Add Endless to your editor's `mcp.json`, then sign in with your Endless account. Cursor uses the `mcpServers` key; VS Code uses `servers` and needs `"type": "http"`.

## Cursor

<Steps>
  <Step>
    ### Create the file

    Create `.cursor/mcp.json` in the project root, or `~/.cursor/mcp.json` for every project.

    ```json title=".cursor/mcp.json"
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "endless": {
          "url": "https://mcp.endless.app"
        }
      }
    }
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Sign in

    Cursor detects the file and offers the sign-in; complete it in the browser. The server also appears under **Customize** in the sidebar, where you can connect, disconnect or turn it off.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Check it

    Ask the assistant: *"Ask Endless who I am."*
  </Step>
</Steps>

## VS Code

<Steps>
  <Step>
    ### Create the file

    Create `.vscode/mcp.json` in the workspace, or run **MCP: Open User Configuration** to keep it to yourself. You can also run **MCP: Add Server**, choose HTTP and paste the address.

    ```json title=".vscode/mcp.json"
    {
      "servers": {
        "endless": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://mcp.endless.app"
        }
      }
    }
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Sign in

    Start the server from the file's **Start** action or the MCP view, and complete the sign-in in the browser.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Check it

    Ask the assistant: *"Ask Endless who I am."*
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Callout type="warn" icon="<Shield />">
  The file holds only the address, with no `headers`, `auth` block or token, so
  it is safe to commit. Each teammate signs in as themselves and sees only what
  their account can see.
</Callout>

## Example requests

* *"Find the copy and screenshots saved in Endless for the pricing page."*
* *"Quote a hero image for this page in Endless, then generate it and give me the file link."*
* *"Upload ./public/og.png to Endless."* (Editors have no upload box; an agent that runs terminal commands uploads from your project, otherwise import a public link.)

For the full list of tools and costs, see [Endless in other AI apps](/docs/connect).

## When it doesn't work

* **The server never appears:** check the keys against the examples above and that the JSON is valid.
* **Sign-in does not return:** remove the entry, restart the editor and add it again, with no trailing slash.
* **It asks which workspace:** your account has more than one. Name one; it is remembered for 90 days across clients.
* **Nothing comes back:** check the selected workspace, then whether the asset is private to a colleague. See [assets and visibility](/docs/concepts/assets-and-visibility).
